Who is the Cure Cancer Foundation?

We're a grassroots movement started by a group of caring individuals with decades of experience in raising funds for cancer research and treatment right here in Alberta.

The Foundation started as a dedicated group of volunteers who built direct relationships with the researchers and doctors to help tell their stories and fund critical research and treatment programs.

Our primary goals are to raise money for cancer research and to end the severe battles people face every day from the moment they hear “you have cancer.”

We're passionate about finding a cure and improving Albertans' lives with this horrible disease.

The Glenn Anderson Day of Golf is back!

The 2023 Glenn Anderson Day of Golf is right around the corner!

Every year the annual tournament generates hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of dollars that fund cancer research in Alberta! The tournament has existed for over thirty years, and in that time, the Golf Classic has raised over $16 million. Devoted volunteers organize this incredible event annually, and it brings out some fantastic long-term and generous donors.

The 2022 Day of Golf amassed $935,000 in donations, furthering the mission of giving cancer patients a better chance at beating the disease! Funds were used to purchase new equipment for the Cross Cancer Institute, and the new equipment has been helping to diagnose and treat cancer patients.

Day of Golf History

The Day of Golf History holds a truly heartwarming story of compassion and generosity. Glenn Anderson has always had a passion for volunteer work and supporting local charities. He had previously helped at a volunteer golf tournament with Doug Cummings and John Trueman (who sadly passed away July 12, 2023). Back in 1985, as Glenn sought new causes to lend his support, the opportunity to help the Cross Cancer Institute emerged, and he was overjoyed.

In the 1986-1987 Oilers Hockey season, Acklands Grainger offered to donate a thousand dollars to the Cross for every goal that Glenn scored. Cal Nichols decided to match the donations with his company Gasland Oil. Glenn's exceptional skill on the ice resulted in over fifty goals that season, ultimately leading to a staggering $100,000 donation from both Acklands Grainger and Gasland Oil.

Discussions then started about starting a golf tournament for the Cross Cancer Institute. Cal, a former part-owner of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club, used his Gasland connections to find sponsors for the event and was able to get together 154 golfers. The inaugural tournament was nothing short of a triumph, raising an impressive $55,000 for Alberta cancer research. This initial tournament and every one since wouldn’t have been possible without the blood, sweat, and tears of dedicated volunteers.

The Glenn Anderson Day of Golf has gone on to raise millions of dollars which have been dedicated to groundbreaking cancer research, treatment, and care in Alberta.

Your CCF Donation Changes Lives

The Cure Cancer Foundation is incredibly grateful for your generosity, which has tremendously impacted our mission. Thanks to your support in 2022, we've introduced Point of Care Ultrasound Machines at the Cross Cancer Institute, bringing essential care right to patients' bedsides. This technology has proven to be a game-changer, providing comfort and relief to those facing painful symptoms and allowing for quicker diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, we've acquired new brachytherapy applicators, enabling enhanced personalized treatment options for a broader range of patients. This groundbreaking approach directly delivers a targeted high radiation dose to cancer cells. It can cure specific types of cancer; it does not just put it into remission.

Furthermore, your generous contributions provided funding for advanced training programs for staff at the institute. This specialized training equips therapists with in-person MRI certification, providing more accurate and precise patient care. Your support has transformed the cancer treatment landscape, giving patients a renewed chance at a brighter future. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making this possible!

How to Donate to the CCF?

UA Local 488 Donation Paves the Way for Treatment Breakthroughs!

UA Local 488's act of generosity has been truly awe-inspiring, as they donated nearly $300,000 to the Cure Cancer Foundation, enabling the purchase of a new Beam Scanner. This remarkable equipment will pave the way for groundbreaking cancer treatments, bringing hope and improved patient care. David Dyer, the Executive Director of the Cross Cancer Institute, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the entire institution, acknowledging the Cure Cancer Foundation's unwavering support and conveying sheer excitement and appreciation for UA Local 488's charitable contribution.

Dr. Gino Fallone's innovative idea of the Linac MR machine is revolutionizing cancer treatments. The Beam Scanner, made possible by UA Local 488's benevolent donation, will help the Cross Cancer Institute to measure radiation dose more accurately during treatment, ultimately improving patient care and hopefully boosting recovery rates. With real-time imaging during radiation therapy, doctors can precisely target tumours, offering enhanced treatment effectiveness.

Marvin Bahry, the first patient treated with the Linac MR, echoed the heartfelt thanks, acknowledging the institute, doctors, and UA Local 488 for their incredible gift, a testament to the power of collaboration in advancing medical care. Guided by a vision of making a positive impact, UA Local 488's philanthropy will undoubtedly shape a brighter future for cancer patients, instilling hope and healing throughout the journey of fighting cancer.
