The Toast of the Town is Less than 20 Days Away!

This year's Toast of the Town (TOTT), honouring Cal Nichols, is less than 20 days away!

If you can't attend, the Cure Cancer Foundation and the Alberta Cancer Foundation have set up a way for you to support this important cause.

Introducing the Toast Cal Gift

Can’t make it to this year’s Toast of the Town but still want to show your support?

Introducing the Toast Cal Gift: We’re seeking one-time donations of $98, symbolizing the year Cal Nichols led the acquisition of the Oilers (1998) and played a pivotal role in keeping them in Edmonton.

By contributing, you not only honour Cal’s legacy but also support a great cause. Your generous donation will directly impact the construction of two new state-of-the-art labs, which will advance immunotherapy research and treatment in Alberta. This will dramatically bring down the cost of CAR T Cell treatments, giving cancer patients a new way to fight off the disease.

The Honouree

Cal Nichols

Cal Nichols saved the Oilers from leaving Edmonton, not once, but twice.

In 1996, he organized a ticket campaign to raise the number of game attendees for the season to receive the NHL’s Canadian currency equalization payments.

The second time was in 1998 when Cal rallied investors all over Edmonton together to purchase the team and prevent Les Alexander, owner of the Houston Rockets basketball team, from buying the team.

The Cause

Advancing Immunotherapy in Alberta

Cancer is a severe threat to anyone unfortunate enough to contract the disease. It’s not a comic book villain that a super soldier can easily vanquish. But what if our bodies could be taught to develop super soldier cells capable of destroying cancer?

This is what Dr. Michael Chu’s made-in-Alberta immunotherapy program aims to do.

Donations raised from the Toast of the Town will go toward building two new state-of-the-art labs and advancing immunotherapy research and treatment in Alberta.
