As we cheer on the Edmonton Oilers in tonight’s third playoff game, there’s another way you can help make a difference—by getting in on the Oilers 50/50 draw.

Proceeds from the 50/50 from the first round of the playoffs will support the Alberta Cancer Foundation and helps fund innovative immunotherapy research—a top priority for the Cure Cancer Foundation.

"I encourage everyone to support this initiative, because it saves lives," says Don Goss, cancer survivor and immunotherapy recipient. 

Immunotherapy is a new way of attacking cancer that is different than chemotherapy and radiation. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy takes the patient’s T-cells and genetically manipulates them to add chimeric antigen receptors onto them. This acts as a new barcode reader, helping the T-cell recognize cancer and activating the T-cell. Once the immune system can identify cancer cells again, the host has a better chance of fighting the disease.
